Dropbox: A Student Must-Have

As students, many of you know the stresses and headaches of file sharing and transportation.  Having to remember which pen-drive you saved your Comp 2 essay on, or confusion as to which file was the most recent.

Here's a solution...

Dropbox.

This application allows you to sync up any files you put in it, from any computer.

I never recommend anything that I have not personally tried for at least a month. This application is a LIFE-SAVER!

60% of our GST Students were awarded a Scholarship!

Yes...it IS possible to receive a scholarship...even if you don't have volunteer hours under your belt, just started college, or think you have nothing to say!

As part of our requirement for the General Studies in Technology (GST) Program at TSTC Harlingen, students are required to attend a workshop on scholarships and then apply for at LEAST one.

Part 2 of our "College 101" Workshop Series takes the student through a behind-the-scenes look at Financial Aid and Scholarships.

Celia Merrell (above) conducts a thorough workshop on Financial Aid and Scholarships - pulling from her past experiences
while working at the Financial Aid Office at Texas State Technical College Harlingen.

"College 101" Workshop Series

Throughout my college career,  both as a student and administrator, I have been overwhelmed with the amount of information most institutions believe to be "common knowledge".

The result?

The "College 101" Workshop Series

Originally, I developed this program for family members, but once I acquired my current position with the Academic Achievement Center at Texas State Technical College Harlingen, I felt it would be a greatly needed asset for our students.

This program covers ALL the basics of college, and ALL the specifics of TSTC Harlingen.  Students who go through the program are taken through a thorough explanation of

 What college credits are
 How semesters are structured
 How financial aid works
How to read those pesky course catalogs
 And much more!

From there on, we provide them workshops on volunteerism, civic engagement, study skills, etc.

The results?

95% increase in college understanding! (from students who attended every workshop)
*increase results from a pre/post assessment on general college/campus knowledge.

If you are interested in participating, please feel free to contact us in building D-138 or via phone: 956.364.4163 and ask for any of the Pre-Tech Advisors.
